Alarmed by the amount of unreliable health care information on the Web, the American Medical Association and six other non-profit professional medical societies, representing more than two-thirds of American doctors, have joined together to create Medem Inc., a for-profit enterprise with a goal of not only becoming the leading source of credible health care information on the Web, but also to "re-intermediate" physicians in the information flow. It aims to accomplish this by providing physicians with customizable Web sites and other Internet tools to enable better communication with their patients.
