Japan MHLW Considers New Incentive System To Encourage Generics

Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare will issue a notice to dispensing pharmacies nationwide to ask them to follow through on efforts to use generic drugs. The Ministry found that generic substitutions for prescriptions are increasing; however, the actual substitution ratio is still low. Acknowledging the limited role of the notice alone, MHLW also said a new incentive system for pharmacies to use generic drugs is under consideration.
