MHLW Survey Finds 42 Antidepressant Adverse Effect Reports In Japan, Including GSK’s Paxil

Executive Summary

Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare received a total of 42 side effects reports of aggressive behaviors towards others after taking antidepressants in Japan. The drugs mentioned arePaxil (paroxetine), Zoloft (sertraline) and fluvoxamine. Among the 42 cases, 28 cases are related to Paxil use. According to Paxil maker GlaxoSmithKline, physicians have confirmed a causal relation in five cases and a relation is suspected or can not be denied in 18 cases.
