Yahoo Japan Petitions MHLW On Continuing Online Drug Sales

This article was originally published in PharmAsia News

Executive Summary

Major online marketers Yahoo Japan and Rakuten filed a petition letter asking the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare to continue allowing online drug sales. Addressed to Minister Yoichi Masuzoe, the letter is also signed by 100 other online drug retailers. The petition is a response to a July 4 report prepared by the MHLW, which stated that it is inappropriate to allow selling drugs online if a site cannot guarantee the same principles applied by traditional retail sales. The letter stated that online drug sales have been unfairly targeted by inappropriate and overly strict regulations. The companies also asked the MHLW to issue an ordinance outlining necessary information required for allowing the companies sell drugs online. (Click here for more - Japanese language)
