Less than a year after it was created in a merger, Mitsubishi Tanabe has become Japan's fourth largest drug maker in terms of market share for prescription drugs. Formed by the combination of Mitubishi Pharma and Tanabe Seiyaku, the new firm held 4.9 percent of the market in fiscal 2007, although it was 0.2 percent less than combined share of the separate firms the previous year.
