China Set To Scrap State FDA, Merge Drug Ministry

This article was originally published in PharmAsia News

Executive Summary

China's leaders are expected to dump the State FDA when the National People's Congress meets beginning March 5. At the same time, the government is set to merge the Ministry of Labour and Social Security with the Ministry of Personnel into a new ministry of human resources and social security to give the combined cabinet department greater supervisory authority. The move is being proposed in part as a response to a scandal involving a former FDA chief executed after he was found guilty of approving at least six fake drugs over a seven-year period.
