MNC Round Table Meeting On China’s Pharmaceutical Industry

This article was originally published in PharmAsia News

Executive Summary

The Economist Group recently hosted a round table meeting on China's pharmaceutical industry in Shanghai. More than 100 companies including Bayer, AstraZeneca, Roche, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Boehringer Ingelheim, Fosun, Simcere, Xinhua Pharmaceutical and IMS Health attended the event to discuss the challenges of operating in the market. Obstacles including the industry's integration, promotion of health insurance, health care reform, population change and wealth accumulation of urban residents will come together to change the country's pharmaceutical landscape. The Economist Group predicts the average growth rate of China's market will be 8 percent for the next five years. Strong demands brought about by an aging population, increasing economic level and government investment in health care make China even more attractive among the emerging markets.
