PPD boosts European operations

Executive Summary
PPD has stepped up its expansion into Europe by acquiring the contract research organisation AbCRO for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition gives PPD access to Romanian, Bulgarian, Serbian and Croatian markets, all of which have established infrastructure. The deal also strengthens PPD's existing operations in Poland, Russia and Ukraine and adds more than 230 employees. The US firm's central and eastern European operations will be overseen by AbCRO CEO and co-founder Dana Leff, while chairman and co-founder Christa Pleasants will join PPD's UK clinical operations as a senior director.
