US study looks at cost/benefit of gene tests in warfarin label

Specific genes are associated with warfarin metabolism, and genetic testing can be used to identify those patients with a genetic variation that may affect their warfarin response. New analyses by the University of Cincinnati show that routine genetic testing before initial warfarin dosing improved outcomes for the "typical" patient with atrial fibrillation, but may not be cost-effective.
