US spending on prescription drugs, health care remained low in 2010

Retail prescription drug spending in the US grew only 1.2% to $259.1 billion in 2010 – a substantial slowdown from the 5.1% growth in 2009, and the slowest rate of growth for spending on medicines in the past 51 years, according to a report by analysts at the US Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
