Although the US FDA and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on 3 May said they were aware of at least a dozen scammers selling numerous phony and unapproved drugs over the Internet or in retail outlets claiming to prevent, treat or cure sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) – even identifying the slyboots on the FDA's website – the alleged cozeners were not immediately charged with any crimes or even had their products seized or their websites shut down.
