US FDA appoints chief counsel

Executive Summary
The US FDA has appointed Ralph Tyler to the post of chief counsel, effective January 19th, 2010. Mr Tyler is currently the insurance commissioner for the state of Maryland and previously served as chief legal counsel to the state's governor, Baltimore City solicitor and partner in the firm Hogan & Hartson. He takes over for Michael Landa, who has served as acting chief counsel since April. Mr Landa will return to his previous position as deputy director for regulatory affairs at the FDA's foods centre.
