Efforts to simplify the European patent system have moved forward significantly after member state ministers agreed in principle on a set of measures that would establish both a single EU patent and a European and EU patents court. The ministers were able to make the breakthrough by agreeing to address the problematic issue of patent translations in separate legislation.
