EMEA appoints new head of pharmacovigilance

Executive Summary
Peter Arlett of the European Commissionhas been appointed head of sector for pharmacovigilance and risk management at the European Medicines Agency(EMEA), effective September 16th. Dr Arlett joined the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in 1996, and was also a member of the EMEA's scientific committee, the CHMP. He joined the European Commission's pharmaceuticals unit in 2003, and recently helped develop draft legislation on the safety of medicines and pharmacovigilance.
