The Fragrance Counter

This article was originally published in The Rose Sheet

Executive Summary

"Free for all" shopping promotion Feb. 23 results in an almost three-fold increase in sales, the Internet subsidiary of Allou Health & Beauty Care said. The promo offered select consumers one hour of free purchases ("The Rose Sheet" March 1, Marketing In Brief). Twenty-nine winners were notified via e-mail the following day that their purchases on the site were free. Sales that day were 10 times higher than comparable sales a year ago. The Fragrance Counter's Web site also reported a three-fold increase in sales during the Valentine's Day holiday period, which includes the first two weeks of February. The sales increases were due in part to Allou's distribution agreements with Internet portals and online services, including America Online, Yahoo, Excite and the Microsoft Shopping site
