Baxter International has brought in-house the Sigma infusion pump technology of which it has been the exclusive distributor for last three years, after exercising an option in the distribution deal to wholly acquire the devices' manufacturer Sigma International General Medical Apparatus. Baxter has paid around $90m in cash for the remaining 60% of Sigma – it purchased a 40% equity stake in the company in 2009 as part of the $100m distribution deal for Sigma's Spectrum pumps.
