Datascope will sell its Profile 8 French diameter, intra-aortic balloon pump catheter in the US this month. The device is claimed to be unique in that it can allow a cardiologist to transfer from a coronary angioplasty or stent intervention to balloon pump, without the need to exchange catheters. The catheter will be priced at a premium to the Montvale, New Jersey-based company's 9.5 French catheters.
