Executive Summary

The Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) is to spend a further C$12.1 million (US$7.7 million) in providing research and development facilities at 23 universities. Genomics and neurophysiology are among the research areas that will benefit from the funding. The 67 projects selected under the New Opportunities Fund include a laboratory of neurophysiology for multisite intracellular electrical and optical recordings in vivo and research into the stimulaton of angiogenesis by mechanical forces. Earlier this year, the CFI pledged to invest C$9.6 million and C$5.1 million on research infrastructure, as part of a C$250 million budget to support the government's R&D development programme to 2005 (see Clinica No 943, p 10).
