Executive Summary
Germany has been given the responsibility of filling one of the four key executive roles at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), the unit set up by the parliament and the council in 2004 to map out disease control policy and strategy for the whole EU 25. Disease control specialist Andrea Ammon, of the Robert-Koch Institute, will act as head of supervision and communication at the Stockholm, Sweden-based ECDC. French and Swedish officials will fill the other three departmental head roles at the centre, which began operations on schedule in May 2005 under the overall control of Hungarian-born director Zsuzsanna Jakab (see Clinica No 1152, p 3).
