American Dental Laser/Sunrise Technologies

This article was originally published in The Gray Sheet

Executive Summary

Settle dispute over manufacturing and distribution rights to dental lasers by terminating Sunrise's exclusive rights to manufacture lasers for ADL and reaffirming ADL's ownership of dental laser patents, according to a Feb. 5 ADL press release. Sunrise will no longer have the right of first refusal to develop new products for ADL but will obtain a license to use ADL's dental patents. Sunrise also has agreed to supply ADL with three-watt dental lasers worldwide and eight-watt dental lasers in the U.S. and Japan until February 1994. The two companies submitted a dispute to binding arbitration in April over contracts respecting the dLase 300 three-watt laser system that Sunrise manufacturers for ADL ("The Gray Sheet" April 27, I&W-1).
