This article was originally published in RAJ Devices

Executive Summary

The UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency is warning users to check that newly purchased surgical instruments, and indeed all other devices, are fit for purpose after receiving a number of complaints that the quality of some surgical instruments is unsatisfactory1. The agency urges purchasers to be cautious when devices are offered for purchase below the current market rate as this may indicate "counterfeit or products of substandard quality assurance".
