Former Brazilian health minister gets Senate backing for Anvisa chairmanship

The Brazilian Senate has approved the candidature of José Agenor �lvares da Silva for the chairmanship of the healthcare regulatory agency, ANVISA. Mr �lvares, a biochemist specialising in public health policy, was health minister during 2006 and 2007 and is currently on the agency's board of directors. The post of chairman (director-president) is currently held by Dirceu Raposo de Mello.
