In its newly published annual report, Germany’s medical devices industry association, BVMed, targets reimbursement and various legislative amendments as its main concerns1. Whereas companies remain upbeat about the rapid access to market for products, it is primarily the low level of reimbursement in Germany compared with other European countries that is eating away at the industry’s confidence. Furthermore, from a legal perspective, the fourth revision to the German Medical Devices Act (MPG)2, the European Commission’s plans for a recast of the medical device directives3 and the last revision of the MDD (ie European Directive 2007/47/EC, the so-called “amending directive”) are also a cause for concern, BVMed maintains.
