Switzerland is not a member of the European Union or of the European Economic Area, but it does have a bilateral agreement with the EU through which it recognises the CE marking of medical devices and diagnostics and has transposed the medical devices directives into its law, thereby enjoying free trade with the EU. Switzerland is a member of the European Free Trade Association, along with Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland.
