E-health start-up is offering online detailing to pharmaceutical companies as a partial alternative to building huge sales forces. Inc. has created an interactive website for cancer patients which will, among other things, analyze a user's medical profile against a database of peer-reviewed clinical studies. The result is a report setting forth treatment options, given the patient's condition, as well as information on side effects and potential treatment outcomes. Although there will be a site, the company expects to make most of its money by selling its technology platform to various health care organizations for use on their websites.

Caresoft Inc.

Caresoft started out selling disease management software to managed care organizations, but has transformed itself into an e-health company. It has created a website offering a combination of interactive content, services and e-commerce for consumers. The company's management sees the majority of its revenues coming from fees paid by pharmaceutical companies sponsoring programs on the Caresoft website.
