Cross-region health insurance reimbursement is no longer an impossibility in some Chinese cities like Shanghai and Nantong, putting an end to the decades-long issue of patients commuting between two regions to obtain their insurance reimbursements.

Patients used to have to apply for reimbursements in their hometowns, but now they can simply submit their receipts, saving time and expenses for travelling. Although patients look forward to one day being able to use their health insurance cards for such purposes, an expert noted the difficulties regarding government powers and differences between insurance systems.
