Japan's government and patients infected with hepatitis B because of reused needles during a national vaccination campaign have signed an agreement to settle damage disputes.

The Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare and representatives of people who sued over the inoculations given 1948-1988 signed the pact. The agreement states the government admits its responsibility and apologizes to those infected and their families. Minister Naoto Kan later offered his personal apology. (Click here for more)
