The Japanese Pharmaceutical Manufacturer Association has suspended membership for Merck, Sharp & Dohme.

The association cited multiple violations of promotion codes established for pharmaceutical companies in Japan. MSD received a warning last August from the Fair Trade Commission for drug makers, and the company received a grave warning this May. MSD was singled out for paying gift money to physicians attending seminars on Januvia (sitagliptin), and sponsoring overseas trips for physicians.
