Australian authorities cleared a spinal cord stimulation device made by U.S.-based St. Jude Medical for managing back pain, the firm said. The device is St. Jude's Epiducer system for stimulating the spinal cord, which St. Jude said offers improvements on earlier systems for managing chronic pain in the trunk and limbs as well as pain from back surgeries that failed. A feature of the newly approved version is that it allows multiple leads to be inserted through one small incision instead of several.
