China's 12 Five Year Plan for the pharmaceutical industry, to be unveiled after the annual sessions of NPC and CPPCC, will center on encouraging mergers and acquisitions in the industry, aiming to have one to two RMB 100 billion-scale national pharmaceutical giants and 20 RMB 10 billion regional drug giants by 2015, Vice Commerce Minister Jiang Zengwei revealed at the CPPCC annual session March 10.

The plan will also address some of the industry's existing common malpractices, such as doctors' recommendations according to drug prices and benefit offers to hospital staff to boost sales.
