China's pharmaceutical market is expected to expand from the world's fifth largest to the third largest market by 2013, overtaking Germany and France.

At a recent forum, China Pharmaceutical Enterprises Association President Yu Mingde said China's upcoming "12 Five Year Plan" will result in a qualitative change in the industry. Yu noted that China's biomedical industry growth over the next five years will come mostly from anti-tumor and diabetes medicines, biosimilars, and other types of modern drugs.
