Shanghai Starts Drug Quality Authorization System
This article was originally published in PharmAsia News
Executive Summary
Shanghai has officially implemented a drug quality authorization system since June (PharmAsia News, Apr. 13, 2009), starting with pharmaceutical companies producing high-risk items such as blood products, vaccines, injections and controlled drugs. The city's FDA also encourages other firms to voluntarily adopt the system. Currently, there is a shortage of qualified personnel for authorizing drug quality. Shanghai FDA will collaborate with the Shanghai Association for Quality's Medical Commission and Shanghai Licensed Pharmacist Association to promote continuing education for professionals. In addition, China's State FDA is intensifying the formulation of new GMP standards, which is likely to include the drug quality authorization system. (Click here for more - Chinese Language)
