Japanese makers of reagents for laboratory tests are increasing production of reagents for the Type A influenza virus becoming a major concern in the country. The Type A virus includes the swine flu variant that was feared to be sweeping the world. Sysmex has decided to increase its production to 330,000 doses through the end of the year, up from the 200,000 it had planned. Denka Seiken says it will begin producing the reagent by the end of May, three months ahead of schedule, to produce more than 400,000.
