Home Appliance Producers Gear Up For New Healthcare Reforms

This article was originally published in PharmAsia News

Executive Summary

During the 61st China International Medical Equipment Fair, such electronic and household appliance makers as Canon, Sony, Philips, Siemens and Konica-Minolta all displayed their medical products. Canon (China) Medical, which enjoyed 100 percent growth in 2008, rolled out three new flat panel detectors and the world's first portable digital radiography system. The dynamic flat panel allows physicians to observe the activities of internal organs - including the heart, stomach and intestines - and to save the best still images. Industry observers estimate that the government will allocate more than RMB 100 billion ($14.6 billion) for medical device acquisition this year as part of healthcare reforms. Many device producers are eying the sector and are designing products especially for the grassroots market. (Click here for more - Chinese Language)
