China’s Ministry Of Health To Establish Direct Distribution System Of Essential Drugs

In tandem with the establishment of the national essential drug system, China's Ministry of Health will focus on the following aspects: (1) industry authorities should guarantee all essential drugs' production, supply and safety quality according to the national essential drug catalog 2009 version; (2) conduct standardized public tenders for essential drugs at the provincial level to cut purchase prices; (3) set up a direct distribution system of essential drugs to healthcare institutions of all levels; and (4) provincial governments to set unified purchase pricing that includes local distribution costs by referring to the national recommended prices. At the same time, MOH will promote rational use of essential drugs by timely addition of all essential drugs into the basic healthcare guarantee system's drug reimbursement catalog.
