Olympus, Dainippon Printing and Tokyo Women's Medical University will invest ¥10 billion over the next seven years to commercialize a regenerative medicine technology developed by Professor Mitsuo Okano. Okano's team takes a body cell and uses a special incubator to grow the cell into a thin sheet, which is then transplanted it into a patient's body. The technology enables a cornea implant by using mouth membrane cells. It also treats cirrhosis, hepatitis and gum disease.
