Probe Ordered In Deaths Of 49 Children In Indian Clinical Trials

Executive Summary

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences denies that any of the drugs being tested in clinical trials caused the deaths of 49 children participating in the tests, but the government wants a high-level inquiry. AIIMS earlier had reported the children died during pediatric drug tests over the past two and one-half years. The news led to demands in various parts of the government for probes into the matter, but AIIMS said all 49 had been mortally sick before entering the trials and died naturally.
