Two pharmaceutical industry trade associations elected new president at elections held May 21. Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Japan elected Astellas Chairman Toichi Takenaka as its new president, and Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association elected Daiichi Sankyo President Takeshi Shoda as its new president. Takenaka and Shoda played leading roles in M&A of Fujisawa and Yamanouchi to create Astellas, and Sankyo with Daiichi.
