Japan To Introduce New Quality Verification System For Generic Drugs
In an effort to reduce safety concerns about generic drugs and increase generic usage, Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare will introduce a third-party verification system, in addition to the ministry's approval review. The new system will verify efficacy, and confirm that generics use the same active ingredients as brand products and contain no impure substances. MHLW has established a study group under the National Institute of Health Science to spearhead the system's implementation; the group's first meeting took place July 10.
