Tokyo-based Taisho Pharmaceutical will launch Ace Ax, an over-the-counter cold medicine containing ambroxol hydrochloride, a pharmaceutical ingredient that leads to the easy expulsion of phlegm. Until recently, the use of blended ambroxol hydrochloride has been limited to prescription drugs; due to a relaxing of Japanese regulations, it became an OTC medicine. Effective for suppressing coughing, expelling phlegm and relieving sore throat symptoms, blended ambroxol hydrochloride has been used to treat the common cold.
