The European Union brought in a proposed directive on female board representation in November 2012, compelling companies to ensure that 40% of their directorship is made up of women. To many in the business world, the news is unwelcome among fears that companies will be forced to choose board members based on the wrong criteria. To others however, the move is long-overdue.
