In a move that seems designed to send shockwaves through the entire company, Merck KGaA announced late on 24 February 2012 that it would be making efficiency cuts across all its businesses and all of the regions. Darmstadt-based Merck has said that the moves are not in response to concerns about its imminent financial results but to more general market movements.
