The ongoing problem in the US of drug shortages, particularly for cancer and anesthesia agents, has only gotten worse in 2011, compared with the record-high numbers reached in 2010, with those figures increasing by nearly 200% since 2005, regulators reported on 9 June. The shortage crisis has resulted in some hospitals rationing medicines, while doctors also reported they have been forced to delay or postpone medical procedures.
