Dr Roger Pomerantz joins Merck

Merck & Co has named Dr Roger Pomerantz senior vice-president of Merck Research Laboratories and infectious diseases franchise head. He will oversee Merck's global scientific strategy across drug discovery and development for infectious diseases, including all antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal and antiparasitic agents. Dr Pomerantz has spent the past five years at Johnson & Johnson, where he most recently served as global head of infectious diseases and president of Peninsula Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of J&J that is focused on antibacterial research. Since 2005, he was also president of J&J's Tibotec Pharmaceuticals subsidiary, which is focused on antiviral and tuberculosis R&D.
