Allgemeine Ortskrankenkassen (AOK), Germany's largest health insurance company, announced its first Europe-wide tender at the beginning of this year. The tender covered the procurement of 64 active pharmaceutical ingredients from March 2009 to the end of 2010. The cost of these products was €2.3 billion last year.
