UNICEF appoints former US presidential official as new executive director

Executive Summary
UNICEF has appointed Dr Anthony Lake as its new executive director, effective 30 April. Dr Lake is distinguished professor in the practice of diplomacy at the Edmund A Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University. He has also held a number of roles in US government, including assistant to the President (Bill Clinton) for national security affairs, special assistant to the national security advisor and director of policy planning. Dr Lake will succeed Ann Veneman, who announced her resignation from the role last December after almost five years in the post (scripnews.com, 30 December 2009).
