UNICEF executive director resigns after five years

Executive Summary

UNICEF's executive director Ann Veneman is to resign from her role in April 2010, the charity has announced. Ms Veneman became UNICEF's fifth executive director on May 1st, 2005, proceeding former director Carol Bellamy. During her time in the role, Ms Veneman oversaw the management of annual programme resources, led initiatives to improve business practices and ensured that UNICEF’s resources were used effectively. Prior to joining UNICEF, Ms Veneman served as secretary of the US Department of Agriculture, where she also held a number of previous positions. Her successor at UNICEF has not yet been announced.
