Medinco CFM buys Helsinn plant in Ireland

Medinco CFM, an Italian API producer, has bought a manufacturing plant near Mulhuddart, Ireland, from the privately held Helsinn group of Switzerland.
The cGMP-compliant plant employs 31 people and will continue to produce APIs for Medinco CFM. The new owner has manufacturing subsidiaries in northern Italy – Amsa, near Como, and Cosma, near Bergamo – and also owns two distribution companies – CFM Compagnia Farmaceutica Milanese in Milan, Italy, and Clarochem in Barcelona, Spain.
Helsinn invested €13 million in an oral solid dosage R&D centre earlier this year, also near Dublin, and plans to expand the development and manufacturing services it offers in Switzerland.
