Genzyme shuts US plant temporarily on viral contamination of Cerezyme

Genzyme has halted production at its Allston, Massachusetts, manufacturing plant after it detected viral contamination that has been the cause of previous productivity declines; the plant is to be sanitised. The latest detected contamination involves the Gaucher disease treatment Cerezyme (imiglucerase). The firm expects the Allston facility to be back in production in late July.
