US President Barack Obama has nominated Dr Eric Goosby to the post of global AIDS co-ordinator within the state department, overseeing the PEPFAR (President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) programme. Dr Goosby has been CEO and chief medical officer of Pangaea Global AIDS Foundation since 2001 and helped develop and implement HIV/AIDS national treatment scale-up plans in South Africa, Rwanda, China and Ukraine.
